Gaming on iPhone Duo: what to expect

The first games shown on iPhone Duo, how unoptimized games will look, and which titles are best placed to adapt.

Updated

iPhone Duo’s inner display runs at up to 120Hz with ProMotion and is powered by the A20 Pro, with a 7-core GPU Apple says is up to 40 percent faster than the previous generation. For games that render to the whole screen, that’s the most immersive iPhone yet.

At Apple’s hands-on event, the two games demoed to press were HoYoverse’s Zenless Zone Zero and Azra Games’ UnGodly.

What about everything else?

Games follow the same rules as other apps: one built with an older SDK is letterboxed with black bars on the inner display; one rebuilt with the iOS 27.1 SDK can fill it. How the display modes work →

Games have one extra hurdle: the inner display is roughly 1.4:1, much squarer than a phone. Games with flexible aspect ratios — especially those that already support iPad — are best placed to adapt quickly. Games with fixed, wide layouts may need more work to avoid stretched HUDs or cropped views.

Tips

  • Prop iPhone Duo half-open on a table and use a game controller for longer sessions.
  • If a game is letterboxed, try it on the outer display — it looks exactly as it would on a regular iPhone.
